Next Meeting…Wednesday, October 11th, 2017…Eagles Club

Fall Banquet – The banquet will be Friday, November 3th at the Valley City Eagles Club. There will be early bird tickets available at L&H Shoe Shop and Northwestern Industries, early bird tickets must be purchased by October 18th to be eligible for the $100 Valley Meats Gift Certificate.

Trap Team – The trap team took 5th place at state this year.
Valley City Trap Club – There have been a lot of improvements to the trap range and there are still some improvements to be made. They are looking into some grants to help with the cost.

2018 Fisheries Project – The scheduled project is the west boat ramp at Ashtabula Crossing next summer.

NDWF News – The main discussion at the last meeting was the crane project. NDWF is looking into hiring an executive director. Convention will be January 20th in Bismarck.

Ashtabula Creel Survey – 578 anglers were interviewed. 378 anglers returned survey cards. 421 walleyes were caught with 141 kept, the average length was 15 ½ inches. Many smallmouths were also caught. This summer the G&F stocked the most walleyes in Lake Ashtabula since 2009. The club donated some money to be given out for monthly drawings for the people that participated in the survey. The winners were Gary Backmiller, David Techskamp, and Dustin Wallace.

Ice Fishing Derby – The derby will be held January 13th at Sibley on Lake Ashtabula.

Predator Hunt – The hunt will be February 3rd.

Lure’em for Life Camp – The club sent 5 kids to the camp in Devils Lake this year.

Fish Fry – We had a good turnout at the fish fry again this year going through 80-90lbs of fish, thank you to all the volunteers that helped out.

The Trap Shoot Fun Night / Annual Annie Oakley Shoot – Is rescheduled for Tuesday Sept. 26th, 5 pm at the Valley City Trap Club.

There will be food and prizes. All proceeds go to the Hunters Education Program. Contact Todd at 840-1198 with any questions.

Take a Kid Fishing – We had a good turn out again this year. 40 kids signed up, 37 came that day.

Buffalo Sharp Shooters- The buffalo sharp shooters came to the June meeting to give a demonstration.

Summer Fishing Derby – Congratulations to Rod and Kaleb Lux for winning the summer walleye derby. The tournament was held on June 10th and 11th. There were 430 walleyes weighed in over the weekend. More info below and pictures are available on the clubs website and Facebook Page.

2018 Fisheries Project- The project will be a new boat ramp at the west crossing.

Pheasant Chicks – We handed out 1750 chicks this year.

Prairie Waters Camp- The camp needed 15 new pairs of waders. The club donated $1500 to help purchase them.

Hunters Ed: The next Hunter Education class will meet at Valley City State University in the Rhoades Science Center. June 12th, 13th, 15th, 19th, and 22nd. The classes are from 6 pm until 9:30 pm each night. You can register online on the Game and Fish Website or you can also sign up at the first class. For more information call Skip, 845-3211 or 490-3211 Students must be at least 11 years old. Bring a pencil and notebook to the class.
 
Take a Kid Fishing Day: Take a Kid Fishing Day is Saturday June 3th at Mel Rieman Recreation Area on Lake Ashtabula. If you can help that day from 9 am to Noon, contact Goose, 840-0179.
 
Fish Fry – Will be at Dacotah Pavilion, in Chautauqua Park at 6:30 on August 9th. Please bring a salad or dessert to share. Bring your own beverage if you would like something other than pop or water.
 
Summer Derby – The summer derby is June 10th & 11th this year. We could use some more volunteers, if you can help out contact Perry, 490-1797.
 
Moon Lake: The dock is in at Moon Lake and Chad Kjelland has been working on some improvements to the swimming beach.
 
Fisheries Project: The boat landing project at the west crossing has been postponed until 2018.
 
Road Cleanup: Perry said at the May meeting that road clean up went well and we have a good amount of help again this year.
 
Gaylon Hansen Youth Day: The date has been set for August 2rd this year. The event is open to kids ages 9-18.
 
Next Meeting: September 13th at the Eagles.

If you have not renewed your membership yet or you would like to sign up you can download a form to send in from our website , by talking to a club officer, or by stopping at L&H Shoe Shop.

Our benefits include our club newsletter, free burgers at most meetings, and a subscription to North Dakota Outdoors Magazine.

Big Spenders Banquet & Raffle – We had a good turnout for the banquet.  BCWF netted around $15,000 off of the boards, bird bands, and $1,000 raffles!  The raffle winners are listed on the next page.

BCWF Scholarships – The winners of the $250 scholarships to VCSU for 2017 are Amanda Starr, Drew Jacobson, Zachary Chapman, and Morgan Getzkow.

June Hunters Ed – The June class dates will be the 12th, 13th, 15th 19th, and 22nd.  If you have any questions contact Skip Pederson 845-3211.

March Hunters Ed – The March class had 35 students complete the class, 14 of the students were female.  There were 14 students that got 10% on the test.

Perch Rings – There were 30 perch rings either built or repaired to put into Lake Ashtabula to help with the perch spawn.  The club will need more garland for 2018 rings.

NDWF – There have been 9, $1,000 grants given out to high school trap teams this year.  There is still discussion on hiring an executive director.  The cost for hiring one is estimated to be $90,000.

Trap Club – BCWF will be donating $4,000 to the trap club to help with the cost of maintaining the trap range.

Summer Derby – Applications have been mailed out, if you are interested in fishing the derby and haven’t before contact Perry right away, we are very close to a full field.

Moon Lake – The club put in a new fishing dock at Moon Lake.

Buffalo Sharp Shooters – The club donated $1,000 to help with the cost of going to nationals this year.

Gaylon Hansen Youth Day – The date has been set for August 2nd this year.  The event is open to kids ages 9-18.

Archery Reminder-The Archery Club has a new facility for its members located at 1025 4 Bottle Drive in the northwest industrial park between Drug Plastics and the Barnes County Municipal Airport.  Shooting times are Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 7pm to 9pm.   For more information call Neil Pederson at 840-0173.
