Next Meeting…Wednesday, September 14th, 2016…Eagles Club

Fall Banquet – The banquet will be Friday, October 28th at the Valley City Eagles Club.  There will be early bird tickets available at L&H Shoe Shop and Northwestern Industries, early bird tickets must be purchased by October 15th to be eligible for the $100 Valley Meats Gift Certificate.  Please be at the September meeting if you can help at the banquet, take a donation list, or put up some posters.  If you can’t make it to the meeting, but you can help with the banquet contact Perry or Jeff.

Trap Shoot Fun Night / Annual Annie Oakley Shoot – Is scheduled for Sept. 20th, 6 pm at the Valley City Trap Club.  There will be food and prizes.  All proceeds go to the Hunters Education Program.  Contact Todd at 840-1198 or Skip at 490-3211 with any questions.

Take a Kid Fishing – We had a good turn out again this year.  28 kids signed up, 26 came that day.

Summer Fishing Derby – Congratulations to Casey Dodgson & Logan Clark for winning the summer walleye derby and setting a new record with 39.70 lbs.  The also caught the biggest walleye of the weekend weighing in at 7.7 lbs.   We had 102 teams this year for the 27th Annual Barnes County Wildlife Walleye Tournament on Lake Ashtabula. The tournament was held on June 11th and 12th. There were 206 walleyes weighed in over the weekend, totaling 520 lbs.  More info below and pictures are available on the clubs website and Facebook Page.

Trap Team – The trap team did well at the state tournament placing 4th as a team out of 20 teams.  Braylen Bruns placed 2nd shooting 98 out of 100.  The state tournament took place in Horace on June 18th.  Thanks to TJ for getting everything going and coaching the team.

Pheasant Chicks – We handed out 1800 chicks this year to 15 raisers.

Ashtabula Fireworks Show- The club donated $500 to the fireworks show at Lake Ashtabula this summer, up from the $200 that was donated last year.

Valley City Trap Team take 4th at State Competition

Here are the results from the state trap competition in Horace, ND on Saturday, June 18th.
In the Novice Male division Sam Beierle placed 7th shooting a 79 out of 100.
In the Novice Female division Erin Roswick tied for 9th place shooting a 64 out of 100.
In the JV Male division Matt Lyter tied for 4th place shooting a 91 out of 100 and Kyle Triebold tied for 16th place shooting 84 out of 100.
In the JV Female Division Ally Anderson placed 13th shooting 61 out of 100.
In the Varsity Male division Braylen Bruns placed 2nd shooting 98 out of 100, Blake Didier and Calvin Bjornson tied for 8th place shooting 94 out of 100. Braylen Bruns also took 2nd overall in the entire competition.
The team took 4th place out of 20 teams competing. Here are the top five team scores

GFRR – 468
VC – 465
Shanley – 454
I would like to thank all those that helped at the state shoot. It was a great success for our school and competitors that shot at the state shoot. We have some super volunteers too many to thank, but all that helped and came and supported our kids was great. There was nothing but positive things that came out of our trap team! Thank you to all that helped make this a success and allowed these kids to have fun and compete.

Hunters Ed: The next Hunter Education class will meet at Valley City State University in the Rhoades Science Center. June 13th, 16th, 20th, 23rd, test night 27th.  The classes are from 6 pm until 9:30 pm each night.  You can register online on the Game and Fish Website or you can also sign up at the first class.  For more information call Skip, 845-3211 or 490-3211 Students must be at least 11 years old.  Bring a pencil and notebook to the class.

Take a Kid Fishing Day: Take a Kid Fishing Day is Saturday June 4th at Mel Rieman Recreation Area on Lake Ashtabula.  If you can help that day from 9 am to Noon, contact Goose, 840-0179.

VCSU Scholarships: This year’s recipients are Brady Behm, Benjamin Holen, and Derrick Derheim.

Chautauqua Park:  We will be adding new boat bumpers to the boat dock.

Buffalo Sharp Shooters: BCWF will be donating $500 this year to help with the expenses for their youth shooting program.

Fish Fry – Will be at Dacotah Pavilion, in Chautauqua Park at 6:30 on August 10th.  Please bring a salad or dessert to share.  Bring your own beverage if you would like something other than pop or water.    

Summer Derby – The summer derby is June 11th & 12th this year.  We need some more volunteers, if you can help out contact Perry, 490-1797.

Road Cleanup: Was held on May 4th, there were 46 volunteers and the ditches were picked up quickly.

Gaylon Hansen Youth Day: The date has been set for August 3rd this year.  The event is open to kids ages 9-18.

Next Meeting: September 14th at the Eagles.

Road Cleanup: Road cleanup has been postponed until next Wednesday May 4th, at 5pm. Meet at the fish hatchery.

NDWF Automobile Banquet: The Banquet was a success. Between the four $1,000 raffles and the gun boards BCWF made around $10,000.

Hunters Ed: The March class had 69 students registered with 3 withdrawing. All 66 remaining passed the class and of the 66, 25 were females.

Youth Outdoors Camps: Lure Em for Life and Prairie Waters camps are going on again this summer.

Pheasant Chicks: Perry would like everyone that is raising pheasant chicks this year to contact him soon. There have been 2,300 chicks ordered so far. The delivery date is looking like May 26th.

Spring Advisory Board: Discussion was mostly on the deer license process. There was also discussion on trapping river otters, changes in perch possession limits, and other big game concerns.

Trap Club: BCWF will be donating $2,500 to the youth trap shooting program at the trap club.

VCHS Trap Team: TJ said that there are 30 kids shooting and things are going well. There are now 23 teams in the state in 4 conferences.

VCSU Scholarships: Applications are in and we will be awarding 3 $250 scholarships.

Archery: We may have to move the location of archery again. There is an out of town company looking at the building.

Summer Derby: The derby June 11th and 12th the tournament is full.

Gaylon Hansen Youth Day: The date has been set for August 3rd this year. The event is open to kids ages 9-18.

BCWF Predator Hunt: 2 coyotes were brought in, totaling 50 pounds. 1st: Nate McGough and Casey Wieck, one dog at 25.3 pounds (tie breaker determined by time checked in), 2nd: Braden Wenaas and Bryan Tykwinski, one dog at 24.7 pounds.

High School Trap League: TJ held a second meeting; around 30 students have shown interest. They have had 10 register online so far. They will be shooting on Sunday afternoons from 1 – 3 pm.

North Dakota Winter Show: We are having a booth again this year at the Winter Show March 10th-12th stop by and renew your membership if you have not had a chance to do so yet. We will have some information from the Game and Fish and a picture slide show of events throughout the year. We still need some volunteers, especially on Thursday and Friday. Please call Josh Holm if you can volunteer 840-5269.

NDWF Automobile Banquet: The banquet is April 2nd at the Valley City Eagles. There still some tickets available, contact Perry for tickets 490-1797.

RMEF Banquet: Their banquet is 4/9 in Jamestown, see Swampy for tickets.

Land Owner Appreciation: Lewis Legge brought a letter that he would like to use for acknowledging landowners that have enrolled in the new CRP program. We are looking at sending out this thank you letter along with a small gift to the landowners.

Spring Advisory Board: The meeting for our district will be March 29th in Jamestown at the NDFU Building, at 7 pm.

VCSU Scholarships: The application is attached to the email and also available at L&H Shoe Shop and Perry also has some. The deadline to turn in applications this year is April 1st.

Hunters Ed: Next class starts in March. Class dates will be 14th,17th, 21st, 24th,and 31st. Contact Skip Pederson 845-3211 with questions

Archery Reminder: The Archery Club has a new facility for its members located at 1025 4 Bottle Drive in the northwest industrial park between Drug Plastics and the Barnes County Municipal Airport. Shooting times are Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 7pm to 9pm.   For more information call Neil Pederson at 840-0173.
